Gary Wynn's
Biography

On an over-cast morning on Tuesday, August 13th, 1963; my father, mother, three brothers, sister, grandmother, and I along with thousands of other people walked from the First Baptist Church in Madisonville, to the farm home of the Kefauver family. There gathered townspeople, DC politicians, laborers, friends, and family members alike to mourn the passing of the great coon-skin capped statesman and enemy of crooked businessmen in the Senate, Estes Kefauver. My father had taken time off from work to gather his family together and honor his passing.

My father and family moved to Alcoa from Madisonville in the early 1940’s, as his commute was shortened to where he bicycled from our home on West Hunt Road daily, poncho packed away when weather required. Along his journey to the West Plant everyday he met with folks along the way, and had eventually set up a route of community help and support. Growing up in a family that cared for our neighbors, influenced my views on the community and how each person can do their part to help out in their own corner of the world.

My first job was custodian at the Blue Circle on Broadway when I was 16 years old, and have held a job ever since. I wired houses and commercial buildings as an Electrician to pay for college, graduating with an Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1986. In 1990 I went to work at the University of Tennessee, and have worked in research there for 20 years.

My wife and I met in 1980, and married in 1989. We have two wonderful children 12 and 5. We have been involved with our children’s schools and helped with their fundraising events.

I have followed with curiosity, the transformation of our county from densely packed industrial centered neighborhoods, to ever-expanding farmland-turned-residential-developments. I watched as former downtown Commercial districts were usurped by ever-expanding remote competition.

I have studied the Blount County Commission for the past several years, and have determined that I would like to give back to my community, a service to benefit all of the citizenry in my district, and the county as a whole. I want to see Blount County become a leader in the Green Energy revolution, and I know that we can one day be a regional center of Green jobs and industries. I want to be your County Commissioner for the 6th district, and I promise to be an open ear to any Blount County citizen, regardless of affiliation, background, or nationality.
